Description
At Against the Grain/Men in Dance we are dedicated to educating the public on the importance of men dancing in contemporary society as it has been throughout history. It is our goal to produce performances that represent the diversity, power, artistic integrity and dedication of men who love to dance. Being a male dance artist takes courage, conviction, and an overpowering drive in order to engage in an art that is not often supported by the dominant culture. Our mission is to promote this journey.

7TH FESTIVAL FEATURES THE BEST AND BRIGHTEST OF SEATTLE CHOREOGRAPHERS AND DANCERS PERFORMING IN A NEW VENUE

This powerful showcase features the best and brightest of Seattle choreographers.  They represent a broad cross-section of dance, from the worlds of classical ballet, tap, musical theater, to the most current contemporary techniques and ideas.  Returning choreographers are; Christopher Anderson, John Dixon, Brian Joe, Vicki Lloid, Wade Madsen, Jason Ohlberg, Gary Reed, Pilar Villanueva, Deborah Wolf and Olivier Wevers.  And for this Festival, we are very pleased to introduce Steve Casteel, Dominique Gabella, Jurg Koch, Benjamin Maestas III, Anthony Peters, and Daniel Wilkins as choreographers to the talent pool.

Due to the critical acclaim, feedback, and sold out performances of past festivals we are excited to be moving to the larger venue, Broadway Performance Hall, and sharing our mission with a wider audience.  We are also offering family matinee performances on October 5 and 11, as we are committed to the idea that dance is for all ages.  We hope that this festival inspires young people, particularly young men, to pursue their interest in dance and musical theatre.
